Yorkshire Four high flyers Halifax Vandals have bolstered their line up with the recruitment of the former Halifax coach Mark Walton.

The experienced half back, who left his coaching job at Skipton earlier this month, will be in contention for a place against Mosborough at Warley this weekend as Jamie Bloem’s side look to make it five wins from five league starts.

“Mark called me and said ‘Do you want a player?’ and for me it was a no-brainer,” said Bloem.

“His experience will be invaluable to us; I’ve got some young, enthusiastic nines and they will learn a lot from someone like Mark.”

Vandals secured a fourth win at Skipton at the weekend, coming from 14-0 down at the break to triumph 27-14.

“We changed our tactics completely at the break, because it wasn’t working,” said Bloem.

“Instead of trying to go round them, we went more direct around the ruck and we destroyed them.

“The forwards were absolutely outstanding, to a man.

“We look like a side that is really starting to gel now.”
