Scott Waites is the 100-30 favourite for the BDO World Darts Championship which gets under way at the Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Surrey this weekend.
The 35-year-old from Outlane hasn’t a great record in the event but advertised his credentials when winning the Czech Masters for the second time in November, beating a huge field.
The Pennine Housing employee has to wait until 8.30pm on Monday for a taste of the action.
He plays in the final first round match in the BBC-covered event against Willy van de Wiel. “Scotty 2 Hotty” is 5-1 on to win that contest.
Waites has lost in the second round at the Surrey venue for the last two years, having reached the quarter finals in 2010 and 2011.
He is third seed behind Stephen Bunting, a 5-1 shot overall, and Martin Adams, who is 7-1.
