Walsh beaten by Flannigan

Liam Walsh lost to eventual winner Terry Flannigan in Saturday evening’s Prizefighter lightweight competition at Liverpool Olympia.

The 30-year-old Halifax fighter was shaded in each of the three rounds by his Manchester opponent, who gained a unanimous points victory in their quarter final.

It meant Walsh suffered a second defeat of his professional career and had to settle for a £4,000 cheque.

Southpaw Flannigan went on to collect the £32,000 jackpot and retain his unbeaten record, beating a badly cut Derry Matthews more easily than he had Walsh and then gaining a split decision win over Dewsbury’s Gary Sykes.
