HALIFAX RUFC have moved to fill the void left by Ian Clarke’s decision to step down as head coach by appointing former Burley boss Mark Walton to the post.

Clarke had been in the Ovenden Park hot-seat for 14 months and helped to assemble a strong squad which narrowly missed out on promotion last season.

A statement from the club revealed that Clarke had stepped down for personal reasons and that former Bedford, Sheffield, East Retford and Burley player Walton would take over with immediate effect. Nick O’Connor, Craig Emmerson, Stuart Hill and Chris O’Connor will make up the rest of the coaching team.

Walton was player-coach at Burley before becoming head coach. He joined Halifax in 2011.
