HALIFAX Golf Club’s run of success at senior level has rubbed off on the juniors, who won the Halifax, Huddersfield and District Union’s Junior Team Championship at Meltham on Sunday.

The quartet of Jamie Smith, Connah Judson, Calum Lewis and Jack Waterworth coped best with very testing conditions which included a strong wind and heavy rain.

The best three 18-hole gross scores counted and the Ogden players came in with a score of 257 for a two-shot win over West End’s Brad Hardcastle, Chris Bell, James Dix and Joe Scott.

West End didn’t go home empty handed from the Bertie’s of Elland-sponsored competition as they won the best nett prize with a score of 222.

The host club’s Yorkshire captain Jamie Bower had the best individual gross with a a score of 73, which was excellent considering the conditions, while West End’s Chris Bell had the best nett with a 69.

Smith, who showed the way for Halifax with an 82, is also part of Ogden’s senior scratch team which has been cutting through the Yorkshire divisions and will play in the Division Four event at Bondhay on Wednesday, June 22.
