Riders take the plunge in memory of Rob

CALDERDALE Saddle Club took the plunge in memory of member Rob Biggins.

Twenty five riders assembled at the daunting double bounce roller on the water complex at Somerford Park, Cheshire.

Rob, a regular at the Somerford club camps with his wife Anna, had previously thrown down the gauntlet at this particular jump.

Nicki Harrison explained: "Rob and I were usually in the same jumping group at camp. We had finished our cross country lesson and had a good time, when our teacher asked if there was anything else we wanted to do Rob asked if we were capable of doing the double roller into the water.

"I was horrified. Our teacher said yes and I had to go first.

Thankfully we both achieved the jump without mishap and were euphoric."

Rob died on Boxing Day of bronchial pneumonia after a long struggle with hereditory illness which led to kidney failure.

A transplanted kidney had been cancerous so was removed and the 42-year-old was in remission when he fell ill. To raise money for Kidney Research riders paid 2 for each route they took through the water complex and paid an extra 2 for every failed attempt.

Photographs of the challenge were also sold to riders with all the profits going to the charity.

Riders taking part ranged from those who had never been through a water complex to more experienced event riders.

Rob's wife Anna also took part in the challenge on his horse Loekie.

"It was thrilling and heart warming at the same time.

"It was a wonderful challenge but also very emotional," said Nicki.

The challenge raised over 250.
