Success for John at North Eastern Driving Trials
A HALIFAX man headed the field at the North Eastern Driving Trials event.
John Wilkinson took the honours in the pre-novice, a class designed to introduce newcomers to the sport, at the Escrick Park event.
Held over two days in glorious sunshine, 63 entrants from all over the region took part in 11 classes.
Mr Wilkinson led from the start and won his class by a considerable margin, against the 12 other competitors.
Taking the Open Horse class was Judy Hilditch from Flockton who performed a good dressage test, stormed around the marathon obstacles and finished ahead of Easingwold's Alec Jeffrey.
The Open Pony class was won by Jackie Herd from North Cave, who also got the prize for the best dressage and lowest overall score of the competition.
Wetherby's Pat Cooper took the mixed Tandem Team classes, with Wendy Mason from Scarborough winning the Intermediate Horse class.
Fastest marathon award went to Lancastrian Gary Brown.
