William aims for six in a row at Bramham

William Fox-Pitt will try to make it a record six in a row at Bramham.

Bramham International Horse Trials, the biggest date in the northern eventing calendar, starts on Thursday.

In the Senior three day event, reigning champion William Fox-Pitt will be hoping to make it a sixth consecutive win.

But he will have stiff competition in the form of World Eventing Champion Zara Philips, former Rolex Eventing Grand Slam winner Pippa Funnell and Oliver Townend, fresh from his Badminton win.

It will also mark the end of an era for the event as course designer Sue Benson bows out.

Mrs Benson, who has designed the cross-country course for the past decade, will be stepping down to concentrate on her duties for the 2012 Olympics. The Burghley Dubarry Young Event Horse qualifier takes place on Friday, when entry will be free after 4pm for late night shopping until 8pm.

Top class show jumping will take place over the four days as well as Pony Club Mounted Games and the Bishop Burton Under 25 three day event.

The box office is closed but tickets will be available on the gate.
