‘Bury take the glory against close rivals

Queensbury B 38

Illingworth A 24

Illingworth’s second team were well beaten on their Division Seven travels for the second successive week as Andrew Laheney’s 12 point haul from two tries and two conversions failed to inspire his side.

Queensbury raced into an early 18–0 lead with two tries from Dane Manton and one from hooker Chris Coates.

Illingworth hit back through Laheney, who doubled his tally hitting a short ball from Brooks.

Kyle Newton kicked through to create the chance for scrum half Scott Ratcliffe to pounce, Newton again converting.

Illingworth fought back when quick hands saw second row Rob Parker storm over.

The cat was among the pigeons when former Queensbury player Shane Davison crashed onto the ball at pace to smash over from 20 yards out. Laheney converted for a half time scoreline of 22-18 to Queensbury.

Illingworth took the lead early in the second half when a neat blind side move saw Keogh and Laheney combine to send Brooks through a gap and over for a try, Laheney tagged on the extras.

Two quick tries from recent signing Andy Raynor and one for loose forward Stephenson put Bury in a winning position.

Illingworth managed to keep the score down thanks to good defensive work from Damien O’Hare and Shaun Keoghan.
