Super Siddal sneak past Wyke in trophy

Wyke 22

Siddal 23

Division Two Wyke were first on the score sheet in this Andrew Bennett Trophy tie, taking an early 6-0 lead.

But Division Four Siddal replied, stand off Chris Brooke scoring, closely followed by wingman Shaun Blackburn, who beat several defenders to score a try in the corner. Shaun Challoner converted for a 6-10 scoreline.

Wyke then scored to put themselves in front 12-10, but Siddal went back in front with coach Paul Long seeing off several defenders before off loading to Simeon Hoyle to touchdown for 12-16.

Just before half time, the home side scored again to level at 16-16.

The second half was a very tight affair, the home team going in front again after 20 minutes play to lead 22-16.

With 10 minutes remaining, Siddal were back in the game when teenage centre Dominic Booth scored a well worked try, Challoner again converting to tie things up at 22-22.

Brooke then put Siddal in front with a drop goal to seal the win.

Siddal are back at Chevinedge tomorrow with a league match against Wibsey A on the agenda.

Racing magnate Dr Marwan Koukash will get his first sight of Salford City Reds tomorrow as he seeks to complete a takeover of the cash-strapped Super League club.

The 56-year-old Kuwait-born businessman and racehorse owner is still in negotiations with Salford City Stadium owners Peel Holdings and Salford Council to buy both the club and the ground.

It is thought a deal for the Reds is close to completion.
