A step into the unknown for Elland

ELLAND face a trip into the unknown tomorrow away to Conference newcomers Widnes West Bank (2.30).

Karl Fairbank’s side travel in good heart after a solid 24-6 win at home to Featherstone Lions in their opener a fortnight since.

However, the coach believes his side will face a sterner test against a Widnes side who will be keen to get a victory on the board after a 24-18 defeat at Shaw Cross Sharks.

“They are new to league and they will be keen to win their first home match,” said Fairbank.

“They did really well in the summer league before Siddal whacked them in the play-offs. Siddal didn’t think much of them but they could probably say that about a lot of sides.”

Elland emerged injury-free from their opener and could be unchanged tomorrow.

Dean Avis impressed at fullback on his return from a length injury absence against Lions and Fairbank will be looking to him, hooker Dave Webb and two-try new boy Jake McCarthy to show the way again.
