London Broncos have confirmed the short-term signing of Australian half-back Jamie Soward.

The 28-year-old was released by St George Illawarra and will play out the rest of the 2013 season with London before taking up a four-year contract with Penrith Panthers from 2014.

Soward, who will fly to London as soon as he gets his visa, will plug the gap created by the sudden departure of fellow Australian Craig Gower, who was released by the Broncos earlier this month and made his debut for Newcastle Knights at the weekend.

London coach Tony Rea, whose side are second bottom of Super League but in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup, said: “We’re delighted with the club’s investment in Jamie.

“It is an important time in our season and it just shows great intent for the club as a whole. We’re really thankful of the chairman for supporting the squad.

“From the very first moment we started to speak with Jamie, we were captivated by his enthusiasm and his desire to play really good football.

“He just wants to add to what the team are doing and compete. He’s an exciting player and one that will set London alight.”
