Barlow’s back for Batley showdown

Have your say

Halifax have recalled prop Sam Barlow for tonight’s televised Championship date with Batley at Mount Pleasant (7.30).

The former Sheffield forward was left out of Fax’s opening day win against his former club and then sat out the next three fixtures with a foot injury.

But he will return on the bench for the second-against-third clash with the Bulldogs, with coach Karl Harrison saying he has “been given a very specific job to do”.

“Batley are a very big, aggressive side who are playing very well and Sam has a role to play against a team like that,” said Harrison.

“He’s obviously been out of the side, but he’s injury free now and he needs to start somewhere.

“It’s a big game and we’ll need to be at our absolute best to win.”

Harrison has made several other key changes, with Rob Worrincy replacing the injured Lee Paterson on the flank.

Anthony Thackeray drops to the bench, where he edges out Karl Ashall, with Scott Murrell joining Paul Handforth in the halves.

Andy Bracek takes Murrell’s place at loose forward.

“I think we’ll see Handforth go to hooker at some stage,” said Harrison.

Halifax (probable): Fieldhouse; Worrincy, Heaton, Tyrer, Sheriffe; Handforth, Murrell; Tonks, C. Ashall, Ambler, Manning, Divorty, Bracek. Subs: Thackeray, Casey, Robinson, Barlow
