Halifax forward Sam Barlow has said the club’s players cannot afford to let their recent cup knockouts hamper their ambitions of Championship glory.

Fax go into tomorrow night’s league date with champions Sheffield at Bramall Lane (7.30) with a three-point lead over the chasing pack.

But with Challenge Cup and Northern Rail Cup losses at Sheffield and Dewsbury respectively behind them in the last fortnight, they are also trying to escape a worrying slump in form.

“We can’t lose focus,” insisted Barlow, who played for the Steel City side before returning to his hometown club in 2010.

“We want to win the league and winning at Sheffield would be a big step towards doing that.

“It’s about remembering that we are still in a strong position at the top of the ladder and remembering how we got there in the first place.

“It’s a must-win, it has to be.

“We need to get back on track and concentrate on winning the game.”
