Double bill is split

PLANS for the on-off Challenge Cup double header at the Shay on Sunday week took a bizarre twist last night when Calderdale Council officials decreed the ground would have to be completely emptied between the two games.

The matches, which are only going ahead after the council’s director of communities Robin Tuddenham overturned an earlier decision by the ground’s management team to say no, are now effectively separate, with Siddal kicking off against Widnes at 11.30am and Halifax taking on Castleford Lock Lane at 5pm.

In between, all supporters must leave the stadium, forcing the four clubs to scrap their plan of only charging once to watch both matches.

Siddal chairman Paul McCormack confirmed the changes to Courier Sport last night, saying Council officials were acting on health and safety guidelines, but declined to comment further.
