Halifax’s October fundraiser for the Danny Jones Fund raised more than £25,000, a figure that is likely to take the fund’s total over £300,000.
Halifax-born Jones, an Ovenden junior and former Fax player, passed away in May after suffering a cardiac arrest playing for Keighley in a League 1 fixture against London Skolars.
October’s game between a Fax select side, featuring many of the club’s current and former stars - including current coach Richard Marshall and Super League players Scott Grix and Liam Finn - and a ‘rest of the world’ line up drew more than 1,500 fans to the Shay.
Fax director Ian Croad told Courier Sport the balance of the cash from that day, and associated events, was due to be paid into the fund today, adding £25,400 to the £280,000 already raised to help the player’s young family.
“It’s an outstanding effort from the people of Halifax in memory of a very popular young man,” said Croad.
