HALIFAX beat Co-operative Championship neighbours Keighley 44-6 in the Boxing Day friendly at the Shay, their first game under the tutelage of new coach Karl Harrison.
Fax ran in seven tries against the promoted Cougars, with former Widnes centre Steve Tyrer - one of nine new faces in the starting 13 - garnering 16 points through two tries and four goals.
Fax led 16-6 at the break, with tries from debutants Tyrer and Callum Casey, plus another from veteran prop Jim Gannon, cancelling out Keighley’s opener from James Haythornthwaite. Centre Mick Nanyn kicked two conversions.
It was one way traffic after the break, with Anthony Thackeray, Ryan Fieldhouse, Ben Heaton, Jessjo Sheriffe and Tyrer all crossing.
“I’m pleased,” said Harrison. “It’s a good starting point for us.”
