Halifax have called World Cup forwards Luke Ambler and Ross Divorty back to training ahead of schedule.
Ambler, the Ireland front rower, and Divorty, the Wales back rower, were originally scheduled to return to the club after Christmas.
But with the versatile Adam Robinson expected to miss the Boxing Day friendly at Super League outfit Castleford as he continues his rehabilitation from a pelvic injury and former Tigers front rower Ben Davies also a doubt with a knee problem, boss Karl Harrison has opted to bolster his resources.
“The bottom line is that you cannot go to Castleford short on front rowers, even for a friendly,” said Harrison.
“Davies is training, but his knee has been playing up and he’ll have a scan on that in the next few days.
“We think he probably needs some surgery, which would rule him out, and Robinson won’t be ready.
“Divorty came back in last week and looks in great shape and Ambler will be back this week.
“They’ve had an extended break anyway because neither of them played in the knock out stages, so that’s not an issue.”
