Fax second-string ground Eagles

HALIFAX under 23s won 48-18 at Sheffield, with Gavin Stead, Danny Patrice, Ben Benn and Conor Wood all grabbing try doubles.

Richard Lumb also crossed against an Eagles line up featuring first team prop Alex Rowe. Gareth Hynes kicked six conversions for the visitors.

Coaches Martin Gonzalez and Jim Gannon were without captain Chris Holroyde, after the centre penned a month-long loan deal with Championship One side Oldham.

Holroyde featured on the wing in the Roughyeds’ fixture against South Wales Scorpions at the weekend.

“Oldham needed some outside backs and they asked us who we had available,” said Gonzalez.

“Chris needs a shot to play at first team level and we feel he’ll do a good job for them.

“That’s what we’re about, giving people opportunities.”

Fax are next in action against Keighley at Cougar Park on Friday night.
