'˜Calderdale Cares' has £500 to donate to a Calderdale charity or worthy cause, and wants to hear from organisations or groups throughout the borough that could use a seasonal boost.

Local good causes have already benefited from over £8,000 in grants thanks to the Halifax RLFC’s lottery.

And manager Richard Watmough (pictured) hopes the grant will spread some Christmas cheer.

“The work of voluntary groups who support the disadvantaged doesn’t stop at Christmas and it’s at times like this their work becomes even more important”, he said.

“I’d like to hear from such groups as to how they can use an extra £500 to make a difference, and make someone’s Christmas a bit more special”.

Anyone who would like to be considered for the grant should write to Richard at Calderdale Cares, c/o Halifax RLFC, Shay Stadium, Halifax HX1 2YS or email [email protected].
