Halifax are in the hunt for an outside back after winger Rob Worrincy was ruled out for around two months with a torn quadricep.
Worrincy, who had nursed a hamstring problem throughout pre season, sustained the injury in last week’s reserve friendly at York.
The former Sheffield speedster had a scan to determine the extent of the damage this week.
“The medical staff tell me Rob will be out for at least eight weeks with a grade two tear,” said coach Karl Harrison, who will field Gareth Potts and Wayne Reittie on the flanks against Swinton on Sunday and has former Salford utility back Jack Holmes in reserve.
“That’s cruel for Rob and it leaves us a little bit light in the outside backs.
“I’ve already told the squad that I’m looking for someone else, because we need to keep the pressure on people to perform.
“It’s an important season and we can’t afford to mess about.
“We need to hit the ground running.”
