HALIFAX coach Karl Harrison is still looking for “two or three” players to complete the club’s 2012 squad.
Yesterday’s capture of Featherstone’s 22 year old utility forward Ross Divorty took the number of players on Harrison’s first team roster to 20.
But the former Great Britain front rower, who has already cut 11 players from the squad that kicked off this season under the control of Matt Calland with the possibility of more to follow, confirmed there are still areas he is actively looking to strengthen.
“I think the main part of the recruitment is done now,” said Harrison, who has been linked with Rochdale’s versatile forward Craig Ashall, while current players Stephen Bannister and Ryan Fieldhouse remain on the radar.
“Realistically, I think we are down to two or three places now, probably for younger players although it does depend on who is available.
“I think we need some cover in the outside backs, specifically at centre, and I need someone who can cover for Sean Penkywicz at hooker.
“I think it’s gone well so far; we have gone for a specific type of player and person and we have gone for players of the right age as well.”
The club’s forwards have taken the brunt of Harrison’s desire for change, with Batley’s Adam Robinson, Sean Hesketh and Dane Manning joining Featherstone pair Iain Morrison and Divorty in the coach’s revamped pack.
“If you look at the teams that went well this year, Leigh had a massive set of forwards, Featherstone were very mobile and Batley were very physical,” said Harrison.
“I think we’ve got a nice blend of all those qualities now.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them play together.”
Castleford hooker Adam Milner has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2014.
The 19-year-old England academy captain, who had 12 months left on his current deal, made 23 appearances for the Tigers in 2011 and was named the club’s young player of the year.
New Castleford coach Ian Millward said: “Adam is a tremendous hooker at 19 years of age. The club is blessed to have him and young Daryl Clark also coming through at hooker.
