Leigh Centurions say scrum-half Ryan Brierley rejected the chance to return to Castleford in opting to sign a new two-year contract with them.
The 21-year-old has been a prolific tryscorer since joining the Championship club from Castleford two years ago, topping their try charts in each of the last two seasons.
Leigh director Andy Mazey said: “We were fully aware of Castleford’s and the other Super League clubs’ interest so it gives me great pleasure to announce that we were able to retain and reward one of the game’s brightest young talents.”
Brierley said: “I’m excited to be part of Leigh Centurions’ long-term plans.
“Playing for Leigh means a lot to me and it’s clear that, having spoken at length with Paul and representatives of the new board, that the club is ambitious and its plans match those of my own to play in Super League.”
