OVENDEN player-coach Gareth Jones believes his side will emerge from the shortened Conference season in better shape to contest next summer’s Division Two.
The Four Fields side, who host East Leeds tomorrow in their cross-conference fixture, are fresh from a win over traditional high-flyers Oulton and have also locked horns with Siddal, Saddleworth and Rochdale Mayfield.
“It’s going to do us a lot of good,” said Jones. “It’s going to get us used to playing at that higher level, being up to speed with the way those sides play.
“Beating Oulton was a good win for us, but tomorrow is going to be difficult because East Leeds are going really well.”
Jones will again be confined to a watching brief because of a knee injury, although Ovenden will be bolstered by the return of key forward Tom Palmer.
