Halifax back Lee Paterson believes dodging Super League opposition in the last 32 of the Challenge Cup can only help the club’s Championship title push.
Fax host fellow second-tier side Barrow at the Shay on Sunday (3.0), a fixture sandwiched between potentially pivotal league games against Leigh and Featherstone.
The Centurions were clinically dispatched 60-10 last weekend, while a win at Post Office Road would cement Fax’s current status as favourites to clinch top spot.
“No disrespect to Barrow, but they’re a team in our league who we think we can beat, so I think we’re made up with how the draw has worked out,” said Paterson.
“If we had drawn a top team, a top Super League side, we would have had to go really big next weekend.
“Then you’ve got the problem of going to Featherstone the week after and trying to back it up, which is difficult to do.
“I think the way things have turned out could end up working for us, but we’ve still got to go out there and put the performances in.
“Let’s get a win in this round, then get a big team in the last 16, really test ourselves and get some money in for the club.”
