Halifax coach Karl Harrison has confirmed that winger Wayne Reittie will be sidelined for a minimum of three months with facial injuries sustained in an attack in Leeds city centre.
Reittie, the former Batley player, sustained damage to his eye socket, cheekbone and jaw after being assaulted on a night out a fortnight ago.
The player underwent surgery on Monday to repair the damage.
“Wayne’s in a bad way, but the operation went well,” said Harrison.
“The doctors are saying a minimum of three months, which will take us into March, but it could be longer. We’ll see.”
Harrison has already re-signed the former Fax winger Rikki Sheriffe, but has now added the former Huddersfield back Freddie Walker on trial.
“He’s trained with us and looked the part so far,” said Harrison, who has already taken the former Warrington hooker Keith Holden on a similar basis.
“He’ll play on Boxing Day against Keighley.”
