National Conference big guns Siddal have been fined £500 by the NCL after refusing to replay a disputed play off fixture at West Hull last month.

The Chevinedge side beat Wests on golden-point in a sudden-death play off, only for the Humberside club to successfully appeal against the result because the referee had not played extra time before going to the next-score-wins format.

Siddal refused to take part in a replay, laying themselves open to the threat of automatic relegation from the Premier Division.

Wests went on to beat Wath Brow in the title decider.

“I honestly thought they would relegate us,” said Siddal coach Gareth Greenwood, who attended this week’s hearing.

“Overall, it’s been a shocker, but the hearing was fair; they listened to us and took into account what we told them.

“It’s certainly made us hungry to try and win it next year.”
