SIDDAL chairman Paul McCormack has described the decision to reject his side’s bid to play their third round Challenge Cup clash with Widnes at the Shay as “ridiculous”.
The Chevinedge amateurs had asked the stadium’s management team to consider a double header on Sunday, March 6, with Siddal kicking off at lunchtime ahead of Halifax’s date with Lock Lane later in the afternoon.
That bid was turned down yesterday, apparently because of fears over damage to the playing surface.
The game will now be played at Widnes on the same day with a 3pm kick off, subject to the approval of Halton Borough Council, the Vikings’ landlords.
“It was our home game and we wanted to play it in Halifax,” said McCormack.
“We’re gutted to have to move it
“Everyone is going to lose out of this. We’re in a recession and they are throwing money away.”
