Prop Tony Tonks has said it is Halifax’s “time to shine” as the club set their sights on a place in the Championship Grand Final.
Tonks, a title winner with Featherstone in 2011, produced a devastating front row performance as Fax dominated reigning champions Sheffield 21-6 at the Don Valley Stadium on Friday night.
Karl Harrison’s side, out of form and under fire from their own supporters less than a month ago, will now play the highest-ranked survivor of next weekend’s elimination games - Leigh against Batley and Sheffield versus Dewsbury - at the Shay in a fortnight’s time for a place in the decider.
“It’s step by step, but it’s our time to shine now,” said Tonks.
“It’s simple now; we’ve got two games to win and then we are champions.
“We know where we are at and we know there’s plenty of improvement left in us.
“The lads knew they had it in them on Friday; A few people have looked in the mirror over the last few weeks and we’ve trained hard.
“People are trying to build some consistency in their own game, getting their role in the team right, and then coming together and doing it on the practice field.
“We are looking good in training and people are wanting to do the hard work.
“If we keep doing that, we’ll get rewarded.”
