Hull centre Kirk Yeaman is hoping coach Peter Gentle will give him until the last minute to prove his fitness for Saturday’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup final against Wigan.
The former Great Britain international went over on his ankle just 20 seconds from the end of his side’s 18-13 Super League win over Salford last Friday and, like his life flashing before him, immediately feared the worst.
“It was the first thing that came to my mind, straight away, as I was on the floor,” Yeaman said at the Cup final media day in Manchester.
“I took a carry and someone just fell on my ankle and knocked it the other way.
“I felt it go straight away but it seemed to ease down afterwards.
“My missus said ‘what were you doing taking a carry with 20 seconds to go?’
“It’s still a little bit sore. I’ll see how it goes during the week but hopefully it will be okay.
“I’ll do everything possible to get on that pitch, even if it takes up to two o’clock on Saturday.”
