Saddleworth Rangers 6 Elland 20

Elland ran out winners in a fiery encoiunter against a Saddleworth side who didn’t look like a team that had lost nine matches in a row.

A great first half from the home side, with some good positional kicking, kept Elland pinned down in their own half. Saddleworth’s pressure paid off as they scored the first try through James Whalley.

This sparked Elland into life as first Luke Read went over and then Tom Harnett broke far too many tackles to go in at the corner, Cayci Pearson converting both for a 12-6 interval lead.

Andrew Shickell’s early try from a Phil Taylor chip, converted by Phil Taylor, made it 18-6 after which the referee seemed to miss a lot of calls and the teams took it out on each other.

Saddleworth’s Matt Bottom threw punches at Chris Cullimore and this caused at least three separate fights to break out.

After much discussion Rangers’ Matt Bottom and Elland’s Jack Fairbank were given red cards while Oliver Fairbank was sent to the sin bin for a 10 minute rest.

With five minutes to go man of the match Cayci Pearson added a penalty to secure the win.
