Old Rishworthians continued their winning ways in Yorkshire Two by demolishing previously-unbeaten Roundhegians 72-25 at Copley.

They scored 10 tries with newly wed Anthony Shoesmith scoring a hat trick and outside half Josh Kelly bagging 27 points

The team showed five changes from the one which defeated Old Grovians the previous week, with four forwards on holiday or injured.

Jacob Bower made his first start and Shoesmith replaced the injured Chris Flanagan.

‘Hegians were 3-0 up after five minutes from a penalty for offside.

The home side soon got into their stride and birthday boy Sam Nunn broke through the middle and the supporting Fraser Swarbrooke went under the posts. Kelly converted.

Further pressure by the forwards enabled Taniela Bakoso to score a try converted by Kelly. Not to be outdone Kelly scored a try which he converted and at 21-3 the home team were playing with confidence and moving the ball quickly. After 30 minutes a flurry of penalties against the Copley men saw ‘Hegians score in the corner for a try which was well converted. Two penalties to either side saw the half time score 24-13.

Bakoso brought off a great tackle before Kelly’s penalty made it 27-13.

Shoesmith scored his first try after a lovely break by Nunn, the scorer side-stepping two defenders to cross near the posts. Kelly added the goal.

Gerard Rollings, carrying the ball well and breaking tackles, finished off a move from half way in the corner.

Roundhegians had a try was disallowed but play was brought back for off side. This was quickly taken and Hegians scored in the corner which was converted.

Replacement Bruce Karola darted over the line and the next try was a gem. Jacob Ford, on for Luke Flanagan, started a move from deep inside his 22. Nunn broke away and Rollings ran 30 meters to score in the corner. Kelly converted.

The visitors replied wide out through their speedy left winger but Nunn and Shoesmith combined for the latter to touch down.

Matthew Hunt-Brown suddenly appeared with the ball from a ruck and ran 50 metres to score a try converted by Kelly.

Inter passing between backs and forwards, with the lively Anthony Nathaniel being involved twice, enabled Shoesmith to complete his hat-trick.

Rishworthians, who have scored 185 points in four games, should find out how good they are against the top two, Pontefract (away) and Moortown (home), in their next two games.
