Elland are poised to give a National Conference debut to their former junior Ed Barber in tomorrow’s Division Two date with Eastmoor at Greetland.
Barber, a centre or stand off from Outlane who signed for Huddersfield as a junior, has played Championship rugby for Dewsbury in 2012 but was released by the Rams last week.
“I’ve got Ed signed on and he should certainly improve us,” said coach Karl Fairbank.
“He’ll probably play at six and he should give us a bit more structure in attack.
“He’s got a pretty good kicking game as well. He’ll go well in this division.”
Tomorrow’s game will be played as the second half of a double-header, with Elland’s A team taking on the Dragons’ second string at 1pm before the main event at 3pm.
It will be Elland’s first game in two weeks and only their third in seven after a succession of blank weekends, although a second team friendly against Siddal’s A team at the weekend gave Fairbank the chance to offer match practice.
“They won pretty well, something like 46-26, and anyone who wanted to play was given the chance,” said the former Test prop.
“Ethan Ingham played 80 minutes, Ben Fairbank played 80 minutes and they’ll both be better for that.
“We lost at Eastmoor earlier in the season and they’re a pretty similar kind of team.”
