Tough day out for brave Illingworth

Farnley Falcons 38 Illingworth A 0

(Division Six)

Illingworth A went down to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of a powerful Farnley side.

The home side dominated possession in the opening exchanges but the Illingworth defence was in uncompromising mood well led by Kieran Dewhirst and Ryan Jepson.

The home side took the lead after 10 minutes when Robert Smith pounced on a kick through to score. Lee Robinson added the conversion.

The lead was doubled minutes later when James Moxon finished off a good passing move and Robinson added the extras.

Illingworth came back with some intelligent kicking from Richard Moody and some strong running from Peter Noel and Stephen Oakes.

On 25 minutes Farnley scored a third try with a superb off load from Robinson to Moxon, the provider also added the extras for an 18–0 half time lead.

Both defences were resolute in the opening exchanges of the second period with Aaron Horner being responsible for one particular bruising tackle. The home side extended their lead with two quick fire tries on the hour mark from Daniel Martin and Richard Head and a conversion from Robinson.

Illingworth still battled on but could not penetrate a strong defence. Robinson finished the game off with two tries, one a superb long range effort, and a conversion.
