Lightcliffe made light of the absence of Oliver Robinson, shown the door by Yorkshire last week, to beat Bradford and Bingley in the top section of the Bradford League.

On a day of reduced overs contests after downpours around start time, it was a 26 overs per side affair at Wagon Lane and Lightcliffe rattled up 173 for four 63 from skipper Jonathan Wilson, 45 from Alex Stead and 36 not out from Suleman Khan.

The first innings of the home reply, bowled by Evan Edwards, went for 20 but spinners Chris Greenwood (three for 29) and Josh Wheatley (four for 29) bowled superbly to limit the hosts to 149 for eight.

Brighouse slipped to another defeat in Division two, this time at Keighley, who beat them by 74 runs.

Overseas man Fakhar Hussain (six for 38) and skipper Umar Salim (three for 22) did well in a mixed Brighouse bowling display as Keighley made 151 for nine off 25 overs.

Brighouse mustered only 77 in reply with Aussie Andrew King (four for 19) and Tom Stead (four for 29) too good for them.

Barkisland avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of derby rivals Elland in the top section of the Huddersfield League.

They successfully defended a total of 137 for nine in a 30 overs per side match.

Visiting paceman Wasim Qasim soon dismissed Alex Kaye and Jamie Summerscales while Jack Hendy dismissed Aussie LJ Brown to leave the hosts in trouble.

Alex Schofield (26), Darren Robinson (23) and Luke Bridges (28) dug in to give Barkisland something to bowl at and Schofield and spinner Matthew Steers took four wickets each to dismiss the visitors for 125.

Illingworth suffered a minor blow in the race for promotion to Division Two in the Airedale and Wharfedale League when their game at Calverley was abandoned but leaders Horsforth and third-placed New Rover won.

In a match reduced to 32 overs per side, Illingworth lost both openers with the score on nine. Tasmanian James Whiteley was dropped on 14 but he made Calverley pay with a fluent 86 from 79 balls, following up his unbeaten 125 from the weekend before.

Callum Cook provided solid support with 32, and Jamie Moorhouse ensured a third batting point with some late hitting.

Illingworth started the second half on fire, with Liam Kelly picking up two wickets. Jamie Moorhouse and Luke Brooksby each claimed a wicket to leave Calverley reeling on 44 for four but Calverley had moved to 60 when a heavy rain shower flooded the pitch with 16 overs left.

The result means that Horsforth lead by 27 points while New Rover moved 16 points behind Illingworth.

Northowram Fields suffered a fourth successive defeat in the Central Yorkshire League’s Championship when thrashed by 10 wickets at leaders Batley.

They struggled to 104 for eight off 33 overs with Dewbury RLFC coach Glen Morrison (30 no) maintaining his improved form.

However, Batley knocked off the runs without loss, skipper Chris Thompson trying 10 bowlers in the vain quest for a wicket.
