HANDICRAFT SECTION
A HIGH standard of entries pleased judges in the handicrafts classes at Todmorden Show, with entries in flower arranging, art and photography classes.

Section secretary Anne Cryer said entries were slightly down on the last show in 2005 but beari
ng in mind the three-year gap since the event was last held they were happy with the number of entries received and with the quality of work submitted.

"We would like to thank everyone for the high standard of entries overall.

"It was lovely to see so many entries in the flower sections, which added a lot of colour to the displays. The art judge thought the adult art entries were extremely good and also the Year 5 entries in the children's section were extremely good and made the competition hard to judge.

"The photography judge said there was a really good standard of entries in those sections. We have had a good variety of entries for our first year back after so long and we are quite pleased really," she said.

In terms of the major trophies, the Mrs H. Temperley Cup for best exhibit in baking class was won by Martha Hopwood, of Cornholme School.

There was a tie for the Mrs Clewer Cup for most points gained by a local exhibitor in the handicraft classes - Dorothy Smith and Hilary Crabtree, both of Todmorden, will share the award.

The Lloyds TSB Trophy for annual competition awarded to the local primary school gaining most points was won by Shade School. The Mrs Greenwood Cup for the best exhibit by a local boy was won by Saul Wilcox, of Cornholme School. Saul also won the Mr P. Sunderland Cup for best exhibit in the art classes.

Winner of the Mrs Lord Cup for best exhibit by a local girl was Charlotte Fitzpatrick, of Castle Hill School. The June Fern Cup for best entry in children's handwriting classes was awarded to Klaudia Kaminsky, of St Joseph's School.

The Calderdale Calligraphers Trophy was won by pupils at Walsden Junior School and Walsden Infants School. The Alice and Jack Speak Memorial Trophy for best fruit cake went to Dorothy McKean, of Todmorden.
The Trevor Cryer Trophy for best entry in the photography classes was won by Chris Ogden of Hebden Bridge, and the Dennon's Rose Bowl for best entry in adult flower classes went to Sylvia Clancy, of Todmorden.
