HUNDREDS of people turned up to show their community spirit at Calderdale Neighbours' Day.
The Piece Hall, Halifax, was packed with families who enjoyed music, dancing, face painting, crafts, quizzes, food and beauty treats.

It is the third year Calderdale has been involved in the Europe-wide event.

There were a host of stalls staffed by charity and community groups,
Music came from Workshop lads' dance crew, The Bash, harpist Fiona-Katie Roberts and i.e., along with the chance to try out dance moves in workshops with Hebden Bridge Flamenco, Baby Ballet, Salma's Bollywood Academy and street dance group Sugabrown.

Winston Plowes was on hand to teach plate-spinning and juggling and there were demonstrations of tai chi, karate, balloon modelling, healthy food, planting and craft making.

Members of Sowerby and Elland divisions of Girl Guiding's senior section attempted to break the world record for the most faces painted in one hour. Kelly Humpleby from organisers Action Halifax said: "There has been a really good turnout despite the weather."

The day gave everyone the chance to get to know their neighbours and neighbouring communities.

Coronation Street bad boy Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, signed autographs, had his photo taken with fans and judged the best stall.

Mayor of Calderdale Conrad Winterburn said: "It is absolutely wonderful that there are so many organisations representing so many different interests here in one place on the same day."

At the end of the day, 1,000 yellow and blue balloons were released to raise money for the Forget Me Not Trust, which aims to build a children's hospice in West Yorkshire.

I'm pretty relieved that this isn't a day to celebrate the tv programme neighbours...although that wouldn't surprise me!
