WORSHIPPERS turned out in droves to honour the Prophet Mohammed's birthday today (Friday).
Hundreds of Muslims from Madni and Rhodes Street Mosques paraded around the town singing hymns and chanting.

Banners were displayed, the mosques decorated with bunting. Sweets and food were given as gifts.

It followed another parade on March 14 by people who attend Al Jamia Al Zahra mosque, Francis Street, Halifax.

Iqram Izaz, 17, attended. He said: "It has been a very good turnout. It shows unity."

Izeem Hussain, 15, also said: "It shows there is peace in Islam. It has been a real education for me."

Saqaf Hussain, 22, said the whole community had come together for the event.

"This is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to come together and show their support of our faith."

Traffic was stopped by police as the parade marched from Madni Mosque, along Hanson Lane, Queens Road, Parkinson Lane, Francis Street and Hopwood Lane.
