Chinese new year firecrackers spark blaze at unfinished luxury Beijing hotel, the Mandarin Oriental

An Olympic-style fireworks display put on by China's state-run television broadcaster was the cause of a spectacular blaze that destroyed luxury hotel the Mandarin Oriental in Beijing.
The display was in celebration of the Chinese new year and damaged the unfinished hotel, which was part of the TV network's landmark headquarters in the Chinese capital.

One firefighter was killed in the blaze.

The hotel was in the final phases of construction and was due to open later this year.
