New band for solo performer Roger

Perhaps best known as a solo artist, Brighouse singer/songwriter Roger Davies will be performing at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, this autumn with his new band.

Experience of performing with other acts, including folk legends Fairport Convention and Skelmanthorpe Prospect Brass Band, made Roger realise that much of his material lent itself to band arrangements.

“So I put this band together with some musician friends of mine and we are very excited about our forthcoming shows,” said Roger. “I know I’m established as a ‘travelling troubabour’ solo artist already but now I can offer my audience a more dynamic concert experience.

“I can now present myself and my music in the way I’ve always wanted to.”

Roger will be backed by drums, bass and electric guitar which will accompany his guitar, vocals and harmonica. A keyboard player may be added in the future.

It’s been a busy year for Roger with the highlights including a 30-date national tour with Fairport Conventionand sell-out gigs at Square Chapel arts centre in Halifax, Seven Arts Centre in Leeds and Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. He also performed on the main stage at the 2016 Beverley Folk Festival.

Roger’s song ‘Wear Your Poppy with Pride’ has raised thousands of pounds for the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. His latest solo album, recorded live at the Topic Folk Club, Bradford, was released in March and was a hit with his fans and newcomers to his music.
