Brighouse schoolboy Jack Haystead’s stage career is taking flight with a role in the opera Madam Butterfly at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax.

Jack, aged seven, of Hove Edge, has been picked to portray the child of Madam Butterfly in Puccini’s opera.

A year three pupil at St Joseph’s RC Primary School, Jack attends the Stardom School of Performing Arts which holds classes in Northowram and Shelf.

His mum, Claire, said: “Jack loves tap-dancing, singing and performing. He started going to the Stardom School on Saturday mornings in May and he’s gained in confidence as he’s gone along. He’s a little bit apprehensive about appearing on stage at the Victoria Theatre but mostly he’s excited.

“He was in the pantomime at St John’s, Rastrick, and he really enjoyed himself. His older brother James, who is 14, is mad about football but for Jack it’s all about singing and dancing.”

Liz Davies , principal of Stardom School, said: “Jack is a lovely little boy, he has a quiet confidence about him.

“We were contacted by the casting director for Madam Butterfly and Jack was picked.”
