Meet Isla Rowe the winner of the very first Runway competition.
The Ryburn Valley High School sixth former was chosen by a panel of judges ahead of five other girls who had made the final sponsored by the Halifax Courier, Harveys of Halifax and Morton-Gledhill - The Fashion Team.
Isla (16) was cheered on by her mum and dad Jill and Grant, her 19-year-old sister Morgan and her best friend Lucy Hudson.
“I’m ecstatic,” said a breathless Isla after collecting her prizes - a modelling course, clothes vouchers from Harveys, a hair voucher for ED’s and a photoshoot with the Courier.
“It was Lucy’s mum who got us to enter. But I’m glad I did now,” said Isla who lives in Sowerby Bridge and who wants to study computer science at university.
Her dad Grant was delighted too: “I’m so proud. I really have never seen her like this before.”
Isla was chosen by judges Tony Murray and Sue Harvey of Harveys, the hosts of the event; Bernadette Gledhill of Morton-Gledhill and myself after each girl had gone through two changes of clothes.
“It really did go to the wire,” said Bernadette. “All the girls looked fabulous and it really was difficult choosing a winner.
“I also must say a huge thanks to everyone who helped make the girls look so great - Harveys for organising clothes, shoes and make-up and to ED’s for fixing their hair.”
