Members of the six-piece Funkside Soul Band have been making quite a name for themselves, bringing their high calibre musicianship to corporate events and private functions across West Yorkshire.

Now the band is poised to perform its hard-hitting, funky soul to a wider audience when it gives its first theatre gig in Halifax on Saturday, October 11. The Funkside Soul Band promises to “only play songs we love and we only love songs that are guaranteed to get the audience grooving”.

With an eclectic set list that includes Sam and Dave’s Soul Man, Chic’s Freak Out, Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, Eddie Floyd’s Knock on Wood and The Doobie Brothers’ Long Train Runnin’ there will be plenty of opportunity for foot-tapping and dancing along. Audiences can also expect Smokey Robinson, James Brown and Aretha Franklin to be thrown into the mix.

The band’s members are Jess Smethurst on lead vocals, Richard Anderson on guitar and backing vocals, Joe Roughton on trumpet, keyboards and backing vocals, Claire Crowther on saxophone, Dan Lea on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Chris Barker on drums.
Richard said: “Over the past year, we have been enjoying polishing our act and honing the set. We are now looking forward to making a serious impact with our forthcoming performance in the Green Room Bar at the Victoria Theatre.”
