web Idol winner Hayley-Rose Roberts experienced life as a pop star for the day as she recorded her first album.
The 25-year-old laid down nine tracks in a studio session at Calder Recordings, Mytholmroyd, as part of her prize from the Courier’s annual talent search.
“It was a brilliant day. I really enjoyed it,” said the Sowerby Bridge mum.
Among the songs she recorded were I Will Always Love You, which earned her the Web Idol crown in November.
She also sang a selection of covers ranging from Adele to Shakespears Sister, plus Kelly Clarkson’s hit A Moment Like This as a keepsake for her daughter.
She sang the song in 2009’s Web Idol final just days after little Ruby was born, finishing second.
“I was just emotionally and mentally shattered the year before,” said Hayley.
“When I look back I still think I did a good job but I knew if I’d been in a different frame of mind I could have done better.
“When I won in 2010 it was just the icing on the cake. I came back stronger, fitter and better and it felt really good.”
Hayley hopes to be performing on stage again soon.
“Winning Web Idol has been good publicity,” she said. “It’s something good to put on posters, and after the final I got a lot of people adding me on Facebook.
“I’ve got an agent as well and I’m hoping to get out on the circuit soon.”
