A memorial concert to celebrate the musical life of well-known Calderdale singer David Gee will be held at Central Methodist Church, Brighouse, on Saturday, October 19.
Voices in Harmony will pay tribute to Mr Gee who sang in many shows in and around Calderdale. He appeared regularly on stage at Halifax Playhouse, the Victoria Theatre and Huddersfield Town Hall and sang in such shows as The Pirates of Penzance, South Pacific, Carmen, The Gypsy Baron and Don Giovanni .
Mr Gee began singing at Heath Grammar School and performed the title role in Oliver! at Halifax Light Opera Society in 1974.
He performed as soloist in numerous oratorios with many local societies and his platform work included such favourites as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s Creation.
He also sang The Messiah regularly at Central Methodist Church. His skills as a soloist were in demand at concerts.
Mr Gee died of cancer in January and the Voices in Harmony concert will raise money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre - and in particular the Bexley Wing at St James’ Hospital where he was cared for.
Elizabeth Boyle who has helped to organise the event said: “David figured prominently as a concert soloist in Calderdale and the wider area.”
The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 which includes refreshments. They are available on the door or in advance from 07429 623197.
