Despite a number of set backs due to the weather and illness, All Souls’ Amateur Operatic Society had a successful opening night on Tuesday of its production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic opera ‘The Sorcerer’ at the Halifax Playhouse.

Striking scenery - made by the members themselves - colourful costumes and beautiful music all added to this this magical and enchanting show.

Aline (Amy Ellison) and Alexis (Steven Greenwood), both voted previous Best Performers by NODA, blended perfectly and were joined by Neil Smith (co-founder of the annual Buxton Gilbert & Sullivan festival) as ‘The Sorcerer’ John Wellington Wells, with the renowned patter song ‘My name is John Wellington Wells’.

The Sorcerer continues nightly at 7.15 pm with two performances tomorrow (Saturday -, the final day), a matinee taking place at 2.15 pm.

Tickets - adults £12, concessions £10 and children £8 (£5 for the matinee) are available on the door.
