What do you get if you take a wicked King Rat, a poor boy and his trusty cat, some traditional slapstick and a sprinking of special effects? - this year’s Christmas panto in Halifax, that’s what!
A treat for children and families is in store as Imagine Theatre returns to the Victoria Theatre, this year to present Dick Whittington. The show is now fully cast and tickets are on sale.
Dick Whittington is the tale of a poor boy and his trusty cat who are trying to make good in the big city. The production takes the traditional fairytale, throws in some panto slapstick, hilarious characters and some brilliant song and dance routines.
Richard Cheshire is making his Imagine Theatre debut as the panto dame, Sarah the Cook.
“I absolutely love playing dame at Christmas and I am delighted that I will be in Halifax this year.”
Clare Waugh will be playing the hero, Dick Whittington, who travels to London with his cat in search of fame and fortune.
“What is interesting about Dick Whittington is the fact that he is one of the few characters in panto actually based on a real person.
“It is a story that reminds us all of what we can achieve if we put our minds to it.”
Jamie Sheerman will be playing Stinky, the sidekick of the wicked King Rat, a role he played for Imagine Theatre last year.
“I am delighted to play Stinky again. He is a guy who really lives up to his name which the children love - kids never fail to find some of his less charming bodily functions humorous, if you know what I mean!”
The cast also includes Sion Lloyd as King Rat, Anna Mitcham as Fairy Bowbells/Alice Fitzwarren and David Gilbrook as Alderman Fitzwarren - not forgetting Halifax’s own Neil Hurst as Idle Jack.
Dick Whittington runs from December 14 to January 5. To book contact 01422 351158 or visit www.victoriatheatre.co.uk
