Halifax Minster will be the setting for a Lent Passion Play next month which combines theatre and worship.
Inheritance will be performed in the historic building by York-based touring theatre company, Riding Lights on Friday, March 14.
The play tells stories from the gospels and of the community where Jesus lived and of the people who knew him best, including the women who stood at his side during his final days.
Rev Jonathan Bish, assistant curator at Halifax Minster, said: “Inheritance is the Minster and Christians Together’s gift to the people of Halifax and Calderdale.
“It is, first of all, excellent theatre from Riding Lights, one of the UK’s most productive independent theatre companies. It is also a creative reflection on the story of Jesus’ crucifixion, which invites the audience to respond, and which links Jesus’ story to the modern world. Everyone is welcome to come along.”
