Even the small matter of getting married and going away on her honeymoon could not deter Beth Smith from taking one of the leading roles in Halifax AOS’s production of ‘Hairspray’ at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax.
Long-standing society member Beth, formerly Harvey, was not going to miss the opportunity to play Tracy Turnblad - one of the modern musical’s most loveable characters - from September 17 to 20. In ‘Hairspray’, Tracy is the big girl with the big hair and an even bigger heart who has only one passion in life - to dance. After winning a place on a local TV dance show, she becomes an overnight sensation. She also intends to win over the local heart-throb Link Larkin and oust the programme’s reigning teen princess.
A big hit on Broadway and in the West End, the ultimate feel-good show features the hit songs ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’, ‘Good Morning, Balimore’ and ‘I Can Hear the Bells’. The show is at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm. Tickets start at £10 from 01422 351158.
