A Calderdale barber’s shop has proved a cut above the rest after being chosen to star in a new fly-on-the-wall TV show that will air next year.

Wayne Anthony’s barber shop, Halifax Road, Hipperholme, beat competition from 500 shops from across the country for the Sky One show “At The Barbers”.

After months of applications owner Wayne had to pitch to the show’s producers alongside 10 finalists.

“I nailed the pitch to be honest,” he said. “They loved the quirkiness of the shop. We have authentic vintage items and music playing. There’s even a bar if you fancy a drink. It’s a proper experience for men having their hair cut.

“We got the phone call a week ago and the filming will start around November for six weeks.”

It’s a fantastic coup for the business that only opened in February although Wayne has won more than 50 awards across the country and has thirty years experience as a barber.

Cameras will be in the shop filming the banter and day-to-day workings but one of the key components will be the customers.

“We are on the look out for four or five personalities to be on the show,” said Wayne. “We already have Disco Dave, a cagefighter with a mohican, and Peter Coenen, a dancer, but we need more.”
